Conquering Your Anxiety Concerning a Surgery

By Rey Vetangelo

Whether you have gone through an electrosurgical procedure, an elective surgery or an emergency surgery, your recovery can be difficult. Understanding how to help your body recover and bounce back after any surgery can positively affect your recovery time.

Every athlete needs an offseason to recover. It usually happens about once a year and will last anywhere between 1 and 3 months. After working hard for so many months, bodies tend to accumulate aches and pains that don't seem to go away. Athletes learn how to care for them to work another day.

Electrosurgical procedures may provide you with a shorter recovery time but you may not have an electrosurgical option for the surgery that you need. Discuss different options with your doctor and get a second opinion while you are discussing your options.

An offseason is designed to give your body the much needed rest that will fix those aches and pains before they turn into injuries that require electro surgical attention. It means that you finally get a chance to take a rest, then work your way back into intense exercise again.

There are many people that like to see the equipment that is going to be used on their body throughout their surgery. As your doctor walks you through the procedure, do not be afraid to ask questions to ensure you fully understand what is going to happen to your body.

Getting your home ready for your recovery can be very important. People will occasionally come home from their surgery and do not realize how difficult their everyday activities will become throughout the time that they are working on healing.

Cleaning your home and putting clean sheets on your bed can help you feel more comfortable if you are going to need to recover in your bed. Prepping food for yourself before you go into surgery can help you eat healthy foods once you are healing.

Read a book, start a blog or build a company. Start working on a hobby that isn't exercise related to pass your time. Find something that you've been longing to do, but didn't have time for before and get to work. You may only have a few weeks to concentrate on it, but it will help you pass the time while your body heals.

Take out your trash before you go into surgery and make sure that you have clear pathways to get to a restroom from the area that you will be spending the majority of your time. If you are not going to be able to be up and about, you will want to find some entertainment for yourself.

Participate in GSM exercises. Do enough to stay active, but not enough to strain your body. Following these steps will get you ready for the coming training season better than any intense workouts could have done during this time. You will likely come back stronger and healthier than last year, ready for another great year.

Should you experience severe anxiety, it is important that your doctor understands so that he or she can help you through your anxiety. Do not be afraid to express these emotions and feelings to ensure that they are worked out as well as possible before you head in for your surgery.
