Kettlebell Exercises: The Russian Way

By J.e. Moncrieffe

A bit like Ivan Drago, the villain from Rocky, Soviet scientists were creating exercises secrets right up until the fall of the Berlin Wall. Even though these Soviet secrets were nowhere near as intense as spy films would like us to believe, they did create a workout secret to greatly improve their athletes in competition: kettlebells. And, unlike all of those other Cold War secrets, kettlebell exercises are free for you to use without having to parachute in and steal files like a spy.

In my opinion, one the coolest things about kettlebell exercises is the fact that you can use them without dealing with inconvenience of paying for a gym membership. All you do is purchase them once and they're yours forever. Also, because they are typically produced from neoprene or metal you really don't have to worry about them breaking.

You perform kettlebell exercise by having one arm clean and snatch. This is referred to as a unilateral workout. You need to this to work on your muscle mass while improving your posture. Just ensure that you do this in a fluid transition that does not hurt your shoulders. The main reason that free weights are so awful is because it lacks of flowing motion while exercising, which can cause injuries.

Of course, no exercise would be perfect without cardio, and here is where kettlebells come into their own. Since you're swinging the kettlebells around, you're doing a much better cardio workout than if you were to just lift dumbbells or other weights. This cardio is what results in kettlebell exercises amazing time-saving capacity; since you're engaging in strength training while also getting a great cardiovascular workout at the exact same time, you're freeing up huge chunks of time for yourself.

As I'm sure you already know, the rewards of working out and kettlebell exercises specifically are endless. If they are being used regularly and properly you are almost guaranteed to see the effects in a short amount of time. Also, with how busy people are these days, any tip to save time and energy is always fantastic!
