Bench Press Mistakes to Avoid

By Keith Bowman

Most people choose to workout on their own and without a personal trainer, but this can often lead to mistakes in form when performing certain exercises. These mistakes may make your workout less effective, but more importantly, they could lead to serious injuries. It is very important to do your research to avoid making these mistakes. Here we will discuss three of the most common mistakes made by people doing the bench press.

The first thing you need to pay attention to and avoid is that you need to keep your feet flat on the ground when you are doing bench pressing. It's important that you keep your feet flat, and you want to avoid them sticking up in the air or where you are pressing up on your toes and the back to your feet are off the ground. You need to avoid this because you want to have a strong base when doing a bench press, and keeping your feet off the ground will put a lot of undue pressure on your lower back, and it will also harm your joints.

Another common error made while doing a bench press is holding the bar with a poor grip. If your grip is uneven, weak, or improperly placed, you won't have the stability you need to keep the bar level. This could lead to you losing your balance and even dropping the bar on your chest. This is a dangerous possibility, so it's important to learn the proper way to grip the bar before you attempt a bench press.

The third and final mistake that is commonly made during bench press exercises is that people perform them without a spotter. You should never perform a bench press without having a spotter present. If you happen to lose your balance or pull a muscle and no one was there to help, you could find yourself in a dangerous position.

So please avoid these mistakes and also avoid any close grip bench press mistakes you might make. These are easy enough to avoid, so keep it in your consciousness while working out.
