The Five Success Principles

By Vito La Fata

There is a difference between people who only dream about what they would like to accomplish and people who actually put forth the effort and make those dreams become reality. Have you ever heard of John C Maxwell? He is a writer and teacher of effective success principles.

Some of his most impactful teaching concerns the Rule of 5, which is what we are going to talk about in this article. John shares an analogy that I think you will find helpful. Let's imagine that in your backyard there is a tree that has to come down. You go into the shed and grab the ax, sharpening it up, ready to do the work at hand.

The first day, you go out to the yard, walk up to the tree and hit it five times with the ax. Then you stop for the day. The next day, you do it again: five blows to the tree with the ax. The third day finds you doing the same thing-hitting that tree with the ax five times.

If you were to continue doing this every day with careful discipline and consistency, can you predict what will happen to the tree? It is going to come down. It may take several days or even months, but the tree has no choice but to come down.

The question is- what is your "fitness" tree? What is your goal that you want to master when it comes to your fitness, happiness and health? It doesn't matter if your tree is 10lbs or 100lbs, running a 5k or marathon, it will fall if you take the right action.

Here are the right actions: spend five to ten minutes stretching each day, eat nutritiously, drink lots of water, exercise and get plenty of sleep. You need to do these things every single day in order to finally reach your goal.
