Fact And Fiction As Related To Health And Fitness.

By Wilson Resturbee

Just like all other rumors that you might hear there are truths and fictions about health and fitness too. Myths often occur when the person doesn't get the whole tip before sharing with someone else on and on and on it goes truthful or not it's still a rumor. Maybe they even didn't hear it right. But they innocently tell something they know, and another myth is born, again.

It may surprise you to learn that even the treadmill has myths that have to do with your knees. Your knees are a matter of contention, some believe that treadmills are safer than running on pavement where the knees are concerned. Let's kill this rumor here and now. Your weight is forced upon your knees every time you run. It does not matter what the surface may be.

Your knees are taking the brunt of the impact no matter what little give might be offered by a treadmill. Having a good running shoe can help benefit your knees.

Making your muscles really work is the only way to really get the best benefit. Losing weight does not mean beating yourself up or causing yourself serious injury which makes the above statement completely false. There is a huge difference between working hard, or having a hard workout, and working out while you are in obvious pain. If you experience pain after a workout that doesn't go away or only appears to be getting worse, stop doing the activity. If you have injured yourself, you want to stop exercising to avoid increasing the level of your injury.

One myth we've all used at one time or another is the "I don't have the extra time in my schedule for a workout". Really, you only need to take about 15 minutes a couple times a week. This short exercise schedule is better than nothing especially if you can top it off with a 30 minute aerobic workout on your days off. Can you squeeze in a walk at work or with your children? You can go for a brisk walk during your lunch hour or break. You can take ten minutes and jump a rope, and you can do that in your apartment or house. It's not impossible to find that 10 minutes if you try hard enough.

There is a ton of research to support the fact that a healthy fitness routine combined with a healthy diet can reduce or even prevent serious disease conditions. Of course you've heard about exercise and cardio health. It is a proven fact that other conditions can also be improved or prevented with diet and exercise. Your commitment to a healthy diet and exercise can also help you slow the effects of aging on your body. There are truths and falsehoods or myths in health and fitness in all areas. Physical exertion often has specific fallacies attached to it while other areas may have general statements too. No matter what, though, do some quality reading and research and give serious thought to what you are doing.
