By Arline Bradley

Any horse enthusiasts know the importance of wearing the right clothes when going horseback riding. Traditionally, the female riders will have to wear womens jodhpurs to be able to ride properly. They are tight around the calf area but full around the seat and thighs. They are usually white colored or cream colored.

It should make you feel more comfortable to ride your horse if you wear this kind of trousers. However, this kind of trousers might not be easy to purchase. There are only a few stores that are selling this. If you wish to have one, you might as well consider sewing your very own pair. Here are the instructions you can note for making your own pair.

The first thing to do is to find a pair of trousers that you want, and can, convert into this. You have some types of pants to avoid when you are looking for a good pair of trousers. Those with double seams and flat-felled seams should not be used in this project. The pair of trousers you should use is that with a comfortable fit around your waist, with a fullness around the thigh.

Pay attention to the materials you use in the trousers. When you choose, make sure that it is made enough of heavy material. You need to get enough weight and fullness, especially around your thigh area. If you do not make sure of this, then it will be impossible for you to obtain the look of those traditional horseback riding jeans.

Try the pair of jeans on. This is so that you can determine if it is of the right fit for you. When wearing them, make sure to do so with the wrong side out. Look for those areas where you need to make adjustments. Put marks on those areas on your pair of trousers to remind you of where you should sew or adjust.

The area around the knee is the most important part you have to scrutinize. Put a mark on that area, since it will become the starting point of where you will make adjustments to make it more snug to the calves. You should ask someone's assistance in this part of the task.

After marking it, remove the pants. Lay it flat on the table. Use the tailor's chalk once again to draw the shape that you want your pair of trousers to take. Take advantage of the knee markings to know where to taper. You should get both of the legs even. Give an allowance for the seams.

Get the sewing machine. The setting of the sewing machine should be set to its longest stitch. You have to be sure that you are sewing with your machine basting along the marked lines. Sew on the wrong side so that the stitches are hidden from other people's view.

Try the pair of trousers you created. Examine each seam, nook, and cranny of what you have created in front of the mirror. You should also try sitting down on them. If they suit you, then you can sew the seams in place. Make the proper adjustments if there is a need for them before sewing the seams.
